If you own Skagit County real estate or Whatcom County real estate, you’ve probably noticed the beautiful creatures who grace the fields of Skagit County as you drive on Interstate 5. Snow Geese are pretty hard to miss, especially when a large flock takes off at once! Approximately 55,000 of these amazing birds call Western Washington home during the winter.

You may not know it, but these birds travel great distances each year before returning to the Skagit River Delta from mid-October to early May each year — during the summer, most of these birds nest on Wrangel Island in Russia, northwest of the Bering Strait!

Next time you’re dozing in the passenger seat traveling on I-5 as you head home to Mount Vernon, Bellingham, or Ferndale, make sure you keep an eye out for these stunning snow-white visitors!

And now for our last tulip photo of the month… and I think we saved the best for last!  This perfect red tulip was snapped at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival — it really was this vibrant (the photo is straight out of the camera).

If you haven’t yet made it out to Mt. Vernon to enjoy the tulips, act fast!  The flowers are beautiful, but they won’t be here forever!  If you have family visiting or are planning a visit to The Pacific Northwest yourself, you owe it to yourself to make this memorable stop!

Enjoy this photo of a Mt. Vernon visitor getting lost among all the stunning flowers. There’s nothing quite like being surrounded by so much color in these huge fields.

Skagit County is world-famous for its beautiful tulips, and its truly something not to be missed — especially since the days are getting sunnier! For more information on how you and your family can get in on the fun, visit a recent post on my Live in the Pacific NW blog!

Looks like some imposters snuck into the tulip fields, huh?  Believe it or not, these are actually another species of tulip, and you’ll see many unexpected forms of this beautiful flower when you visit the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

I’m always surprised to talk to Whatcom County residents who tell me they’ve never been to the Festival.  People come from all over to witness these bright fields blooming at their peak, and if you live in Bellingham, Ferndale or Lynden, the drive isn’t far at all . . . so don’t miss this special celebration of spring!

For people who live in Whatcom County, Skagit County, Island and San Juan Counties, this is a special time of year. Many of us like to make the annual pilgrimage to Mt. Vernon’s annual Tulip Festival.

We’ll continue posting tulip pictures throughout April, so be sure to check back soon!

whitegeese

Every winter and early spring, travelers along the I-5 corridor notice something special in the fields of Mount Vernon in Skagit County: flocks of white geese scattered in the farmland fields. These two geese were part of a larger flock resting a quite soggy, muddy field (we discovered this when we tried to sneak in for a closer peek).

Skagit County living offers a nice away-from-it-all feeling, though it’s still close enough to larger cities (such as Bellingham, Burlington, Everett, and Seattle) to offer every amenity you could ask for. Expert Pacific Northwest real estate agent Susan Stecher can help you find an amazing home in this special community — just contact her for more information!

snowtree

Whatcom County received its first dusting of snow this past week, and while accumulations weren’t enough to disrupt school and work too much, it sure was pretty around here!

Whether you live in Whatcom, Skagit, Island, or San Juan county, I hope you’re enjoying winter and the beauty of the holiday season here in The Pacific Northwest!

frenchpress2

Well, it’s that time of year again in Whatcom, Skagit, Island, and San Juan Counties, as Winter gets ready to make its grand arrival. Time to warm up the bones (and wake up the spirit) with a nice cup of Northwest-roasted French Press coffee!

If you consider yourself a die-hard Pacific Northwest coffee lover, and you’ve never tried your coffee French-pressed, I highly recommend you give it a try! There’s nothing like it . . . and there’s nothing like cozying up inside on a blustery, beautiful Western Washington day in November.
