sunset3

Check out this sunset view from Zuanich Park in Squalicum Harbor! Just moments from the San Juan Islands, this port on Bellingham Bay is home to more than 1,800 commercial and pleasure boats. With views like these, it’s easy to see why this part of the Columbia neighborhood is a favorite destination for boaters and land-lovers alike.

bee3

We caught a quick shot of this bee gathering pollen in Boxx Berry Farm’s U-pick field in Ferndale. Many of the flowers will soon be gone, as the dahlia fields are beginning to frost over in the morning air, but bees are still preparing for the long winter ahead.

Beekeepers in Whatcom County are busy doing the same, trying to ensure their hives’ survival through the cold winter months. It’s not an easy job/hobby, but support is available in the form of the Mt. Baker Beekeepers Association, which meets every second Wednesday of the month in North Bellingham. They tackle common issues – everything from swarming hives to yellow jacket invasion – and are a valuable resource for new beekeepers as well as long-time enthusiasts.

mugs

These hand-crafted mugs are but a few of the many locally-made items on display at the Bellingham Farmer’s market in downtown Bellingham each Saturday.  In fact, many of these Whatcom County artisans are famous throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond for their skills and craftmanship.  From pottery to handmade bags to one-of-a-kind clothing, you’ll find offerings unlike any other at the Bellingham Farmer’s Market (and if you’re one of those super-early holiday shoppers, this is the place to find fantastic gifts!).

Every September, Bellingham’s population grows by the thousands in just a few days as students return to Western Washington University for their fall courses.

Many students will choose to live on-campus in one of Western’s dorms, but others will choose to live off-campus in neighborhoods close-by. Happy Valley, Samish, York, and Sehome Neighborhoods are all very popular choices, as they offer easy travel options to campus, as well as close proximity to shopping.

Welcome back, students!

boat

Seasoned residents of the Pacific Northwest have been bracing for the tell-tale cooler weather and rain that signals the arrival of fall, but so far, summer seems to be sticking around for a while. No complaints here!

This boat headed out from Bellingham’s Squalicum Harbor at sunset a few days ago. While many people stood on shore at Zuanich Point Park enjoying the vibrant sunset, this boat set out for an unobstructed view.

Residents of the Eldridge Historical District (in the Columbia Neighborhood) have easy access to both the park and these stunning views–no boat required. Check out our Columbia photo galleries to see more!

mom&child

This mother and child are enjoying the view from the bridge over Whatcom Falls (more photos of Whatcom Falls coming soon!).  Visitors as well as long-time Whatcom County residents come to experience the roar of rushing waterfalls — the pounding water is so loud, you can hear it the moment you step out of your car in the parking lot!  Though Whatcom Falls Park is located right between Whatcom Falls neighborhood and the bustling Puget neighborhood in Bellingham, the park’s fresh air and soothing sounds offer a quick getaway from the busyness of everyday life.  And for kids, this is an exciting place to explore the woods along the river (with a parent along, of course).

The Whatcom Falls neighborhood in Bellingham offers many opportunities to live with stunning natural beauty right in your backyard.  To see more, visit our Whatcom Falls gallery or use our free Bellingham MLS search.

woodscoffee

When the Herman family of Lynden first opened its original Woods Coffee shop in 2002, even they couldn’t have dreamed they would grow to nine locations in just a few short years.  Known for their quality coffee, friendly service, comfortable leather seating, and convenient free wi-fi, The Woods Coffee has quickly become a regular stop for Whatcom County residents.  One of our favorite locations sits right in the center of Boulevard Park in the South Hill neighborhood of Bellingham.  With windows situated perfectly for sunset views over Bellingham Bay, this cozy cafe is a perfect place to end the day with a warm beverage in hand.
